Handling
Harry Brubaker, a lawyer who has been called up to serve as a pilot during th Korean War, crashes his jet aircraft while returning from a mission and is rescued from the sea by Mike Forney, a helicopter pilot. Shortky afterwards, Brubaker goes on leave to Japan and is there reunited with his wife, Nacy and their two small children. Admiral Tarrant, who feels affectionately towards Brubaker since he reminds him of his son , meets Nancy and realises that, in his anxiety to protect his wife, Brubaker has created a situation in which she may go to pieces should he be killed in action. The Admiral convinces Nancy that she must learn how to face the realities of war. Back in action, a squadron from the carrier is detailed to bomb a heavily defended strategic point - the Bridges at Toko-Ri. Although the carefully planned raid achieves its objective, Brubaker's aircraft is damaged; he has to crashland in enemy territory, after sending out an SOS to the helicopter service. Forney comes to the rescue, but the helicopter is put out of action, and Forney, his crew man, and Brubaker are all shot down before further help can reach them.
