Gösta Björck, an engineer, is the rather bossy head of his family. He has a hot temper but deep down he has a good heart. His wife is Frida and the two children are Greta and Ville. Their live-in maid is Hulda. The teenage Greta is about to graduate school and is courted by the two young men Bertil och Börje. At the Björck home it is time for the annual spring cleaning, followed by the traditional dinner for friends and acquaintances. Among those who attend is the glamorous Mrs. Astrid Holten, who starts flirting audaciously with Gösta. He, for his part, is beside himself with delight. The flirtation is about to lead to major complications, but Ville sorts them out in his own very special way and Greta accepts Bertil's offer to be the one to take her to the school dance.
